In the last
30 years the environmental consciousness of the European public has been
growing explicitly. Among others the reasons for this trend can be found in a
series of hazardous industrial accidents. As a consequence especially in Germany
a lot of laws and directives have been released by the national governments as
well as by the European community. Badische
Stahlwerke therefore started in the late 80's to develop several technologies
to reduce the environmental impact of its steelplant.
Badische
Stahlwerke was the first steelplant in Europe
implementing a certified environmental management system back in 1995. Some of
the developments like dioxin and furan reduction as well as slag treatment
technology are mentioned as Best Available Techniques (BAT) in the Reference
Document of the European Union.
In the near
future and in some areas of the world right now, environmental protection is
one of the biggest challenges for the mini mill industry.
The good
news about all this is that a highly profitable steel production and the
highest respect for the world’s ecological needs are not a contradiction
anymore:
- Cost
savings through integrated recycling concepts – sell what you may have dumped
before.
- Technologies
such as HTQ also enhance productivity!
- Less
emissions to air, water and soil.
- Legal
security through compliance with regulations.
- Improved
acceptance by population living nearby as well as by the employees.
- BSE
offers product-neutral consulting, assistance and supervision in all stages of
implementation.
- Almost
twenty years of experience in BSW's own plant guarantees proven ideas and
solutions which can be implemented in a short period of time.
According
to the idea of BSE the knowledge and technology of environmental protection is
available to be shared in a close partnership.
